Reporting Repeat Engagement Without Vanity Metrics

Reporting Repeat Engagement Without Vanity Metrics

Dashboards heavy on opens encourage subject-line gimmicks that hurt trust. We coach teams to pair engagement metrics with downstream behaviors: second-month logins, feature adoption, or support ticket volume.

Define repeat engagement for your product. For education brands, it might be lesson completions; for SaaS, it might be weekly active teams. Align email reporting to that definition even if setup takes longer.

Cohort views beat campaign views for lifecycle work. A retention email may look weak in isolation while contributing to a cohort that renews at a higher rate. Build cohort charts before declaring a flow failed.

Share reports with operators and copywriters together. When analysts present alone, insights stall in slides. Joint reviews turn metrics into the next test hypothesis.
