Win-back Sequences That Offer Opt-Down Paths
Aggressive discount ladders train subscribers to wait for promotions. We design win-back sequences that escalate value before price, and include an opt-down to a monthly digest for readers who are not ready to return to a paid plan.
Opt-down paths need explicit copy about frequency and content type. Subscribers should know they will receive fewer emails, not a hidden downgrade to marketing blasts.
Measure opt-down uptake separately from full reactivations. A healthy program shows some subscribers choosing the digest while others return to paid—both are preferable to silent unsubscribes.
Sunset rules remain essential. If neither reactivation nor opt-down engages after the final step, suppress the address from promotional sends and route to a quarterly check-in only.
